The site has been down because my primary web server has died -- again.

Thing are looking very bleak, but I have managed to hobble together a working site on another server.

Some things may be missing, but there's not much I can do about that.

It may be some time before I can get things back to normal.  I'll do the best I can.

I was wondering what happened for two hours...lol

Considering the massive task of maintaining a complex site as this, you did a great job Todd. It would be interesting to give us rundown of how a server goes down like this. Just for people like me who ar technically challenged...lol I would find it very interseting.

Of course after this is fixed.

As an educated guess i would say the answer lies somewhere in the vicinity of an overload? Yes? No?

I remember when I was working at a market research company 11 yeras ago in N.Y.C, there was a room full of servers , and it was very cold in there. The computer pro was always in there trying to make sure the heat wasn't going to make them go down, because there were over 200 phone lines making it a burden for them.

It really must be in the air, I've had alot of trouble also with my servers, and at different locations.  I've had trouble accessing my wireless, and trouble sending/receiving email at other locations.

Thanks everyone for your understanding.

I have been able to temporarily reconstruct almost everything.  The biggest missing piece is the Member Home Pages for premium members.  That includes all the images that you've uploaded to Lottery Post, and any other content you stuck on the server.  I won't be able to get that stuff up until the web server is fixed.

In the meantime, I've got the main site, blogs site, mobile site, Lottery Results Gadget, lottery results engine, and USA Mega running, so I'm going to take a breather and see what I can do tomorrow.

FYI, to those who had an avatar that they uploaded to their member space on the Lottery Post web server, I had to disable your avatar, because none of the images are available.  When the web server is fixed, you should be able to reset your avatar the way it was.

Thanks Todd,  I was having router problems with  my laptop-I used this board to test my connection availability.  When it didnt work  I got nervous.  I was ready to bust open  my laptop when i saw on my desktop that it worked  later on.  Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the explanation Todd.

Obviously you confronted the dilema head on and met the challenge to get the site back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hey Todd, thanks for keeping us in the loop.  I wish I could be of help on a technical level.  When I read your post, I had some immediate thoughts that I'll share but, of course, for entertainment purposes only....

Sleeping on it is a very good idea.  There seems to be potential for not sleeping/resting well.  A time out and regrouping is important.

Something is going on that you don't know about - I don't think this has anything to do with your technical skills or abilities.  I think the answer to the problem lies more in the hand of another than in yours.  I think the other hand is a negative one.   Down the line from this crisis (and maybe as an indirect result of it), I wonder if an offer will come to you that might open another door.   You need to trust your intuition now more than ever.

You are probably going to need help and offers of help will come (okay, not a stretch given I know there are some great minds here at LP)

Oh yes, Mercury has retrograded and we have Capricorn, all business, all over the place.  The thing about the Capricorn influence is that this is when we succeed because failure truly is not an option.  All about stubboress, pride and sheer will of spirit.    The problem is that the combination can be exhausting, frustrating and really raise the blood pressure.    You do a great job, in my opinion, of maintaining this day in and day out.   I appreciate the effort it must take.   J

Thanks Todd...I didn't know what was going on!

Being completely computer illiterate.....I thought it was something my daughter downloaded. LOL

Yes I was highly upset with her that evening. When I got back on the next day .....all was right with the world. I could access LP and connect with the LP family.

No harm ...no foul....and yes I apologized.

I've been curious what's used as a server. Xeon in a 2u chassis on a rack? I had a Xeon motherboard go bad when the IDE controller started generating corruption on drives. Certainly not cheap to replace. Most important thing are the backups.
