I'm kind of fascinated on people's perception relative to their approach to playing the big jackpot games.

I have a natural instinct that makes me think I'm going to win the big one all the time.

I have heard other people being somewhat negative however and was wondering how most people feel about it.

I know that instinct you're talking about. I'm in disbelief every time I don't win the big one.

I just try to think positive and hope for the best. I mean, I'm sure many people believe that they are going to win a jackpot, but really, the odds are against the fact, that all of us are going to win one. Still, I try to think positive and continue to buy tickets for each drawing.

Strongly agree! you never will know if you do not play. Get at least 2 tickets every time the jack pot reaches 100 Million!

I wouldn't play if I didn't believe I was going to win but I'm not the only one who thinks I'm going to win because clerks selling me my tickets and others are always telling me to remember them when I win.

Now, if I can just get my post-drawing tickets to agree with my pre-drawing feelings...

If buy 1000 tickets every year, you can expect to win once every 175,000 years. If you play for 50 years there's stil only a 1 in 3500 chance that you'll be one of the people to win. Anyone who actually believes they'll win is extremely optimistic at best, and delusional at worst. That's not negativity, it's simple reality.

We have the Mega Millions and Super lotto, but not a chance because I would know what to do with the money.  You wouldn't see me on some talk show  talking about how I lost millions of dollars with uncontrolled spending sprees or buying houses, cars, jewelry for family and friends.  Yes, I would share, but not to the degree that other people who win do and don't have substantial saving to rely on 5 or 6 years later hence ending up on a talk show, talking about how I lost it all and now I have no friends and family.  Winning large sums of money comes with great responsibility that if you're not careful can cause great heartache, hey, just ask West Virginia Winner, Mr.   Jack Whitaker.  $119 million after taxes!!!!!!!!!

When it comes to Powerball(and soon to be Mega Millions), I just hope for the best. I am going to win Lotto though.

Getting 4 numbers in the office pool twice keeps me playing.  Will I probably win? No. 

Will I go broke trying? No.  So I will continue to try in the off chance my/pool's day comes.

I hope California does NOT get the Powerball game.  In fact, maybe I'll write to various state leaders and the lotto board asking them NOT to include it.  What happens is, with these "larger" games, the ones which have odds over 175 Million to 1 (!), people tend to play them when the jackpots grow very large.  The problem is that, with 175 Million to 1 (!) odds, you have virtually no chance of winning them. 

When people play these long odds games, they siphon off the jackpot from California's regular Super Lotto game.

At least if you play $10 in the California Super Lotto game, the odds drop down to 4.5 Million to 1(!). 

Is anyone like me, where I will never use mega millions or powerball random number generator? If my numbers come up in one of those, I'll feel like it will never happen again.

Yes, I truly believe my chosen numbers will eventually hit, when exactly--gee whiz I hope very, very soon.  However, I must admit, it's getting very frustrating to keep winning "free replays" and 2 numbers all the time..just this morning I found out the 7-11 where I had previously bought several tickets ago in Huntington Beach, just had a winning ticket--Fantasy 5 for all 5 numbers on 11/2/09 or 11/3/09 for over $27,000; talk about buying your tickets on the wrong day!!  Like I said previously befofe, it's all about the luck of the draw, sheer luck and timing--PLUS A WHOLE LOT OF PATIENCE
