November 29, 2012, 12:21 pmAnother man jailed on false rape charge
Innocent man spent years in jail for sexual assault that never happened
"Montgomery was falsely convicted of molesting Elizabeth Paige Coast four years ago. At the age of 17, Coast was caught watching pornography by her parents. In an attempt to explain her behavior, the teenage girl told her distraught parents that she had been sexually abused while she was 10 years old. Pressured to reveal details, Coast told her parents that she was molested by Montgomery, who previously lived across the street from her grandmother in Hampton, Va. The two kids used to play together when Montgomery was 14."
A society that fails to deal with false rape and DV claims harshly is going to have a rude awakening when the pendulum swings back. This keeps up, men are going to stop coming to the little dearies' rescue when they claim abuse.
Nevermind the risk he faced while inside; mens' lives are expendable, after all.

Ohioans’ food stamp aid to be reduced
Benefit to fall $50 a month starting in January
Ohio families receiving food stamps could get an unwelcome surprise come January: $50 less every month in assistance.
For the 869,000 households enrolled in the program for the poorest Ohioans, that could amount to about $520 million annually out of the grocery budgets.
Because of the way the federal government calculates utility expenses for people receiving the benefit, a mild winter nationwide last year, and a lower price for natural gas, many families could experience a significant cut in aid, those familiar with the program say.
November 8, 2012, 2:00 pmBoy takes parents' savings, buys candy
KONOTOP, Ukraine, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A 9-year-old Ukrainian boy spent nearly $4,000 on candy in several days, the money coming from his parents' savings hidden in a couch.
"The disappearance [of the money] was first spotted by his father. He opened the stash and saw it was empty," said Tatyana Kushnerova of the Konotop, Ukraine police department.
After an argument, the son admitted taking the money during his autumn school holiday, $3,300 in U.S. cash and about 600 euros ($635), converting it to Ukrainian hryvnas with the help of an adult acquaintance and spending it on candy, which he shared with friends, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported Wednesday.
The man, who was diagnosed with a mental disorder, always received a tip for his services, the news agency said.
Let's see: Took money he didn't earn... to buy goodies for his friends... has nothing to show for it... now, everyone's fooked.

November 1, 2012, 1:12 pmEthiopian kids hack OLPCs in 5 months with zero instruction
What happens if you give a thousand Motorola Zoom tablet PCs to Ethiopian kids who have never even seen a printed word? Within five months, they'll start teaching themselves English while circumventing the security on your OS to customize settings and activate disabled hardware. Whoa.
"We left the boxes in the village. Closed. Taped shut. No instruction, no human being. I thought, the kids will play with the boxes! Within four minutes, one kid not only opened the box, but found the on/off switch. He'd never seen an on/off switch. He powered it up. Within five days, they were using 47 apps per child per day. Within two weeks, they were singing ABC songs [in English] in the village. And within five months, they had hacked Android. Some idiot in our organization or in the Media Lab had disabled the camera! And they figured out it had a camera, and they hacked Android."
Meanwhile, your kids are imprisoned for 12 years in public "schools" and still can barely read, when they're released.

August 25, 2012, 9:20 amPlaydough use offends Maori
More political correctness gone wild.
The days of making macaroni necklaces and potato prints at kindergarten are quickly becoming a thing of the past - and playdough may be the next to go.
Many early-learning centres are banning, or at least restricting, the use of food as a play tool because it is deemed culturally insensitive, or "bad tikanga".
Some Maori centres have even stopped using playdough because it is made from edible ingredients.
