Catcher in the Rye was, without a doubt, one of the worst books I've ever read in my life. I read it once back in school and was disgusted, then picked it up again after the Mel Gibson movie Conspiracy Theory, thinking I might have not given it a fair chance. I found out I HAD given it plenty of chance, and the second reading was worse than the first. I don't know if I've ever seen a more despicable protagonist than Holden Caulfield. He doesn't even ascribe to "anti-hero" b/c there's nothing redeeming about him and there's nothing especially entertaining about the book.
I glanced through the rest of the list and it's obvious that the "Editors of GQ" - or whoever wrote this article - is an effeminate metrosexual, a pansy candy-azz who is threatened by books about war and violence...or anything that doesn't conform to today's progressive ideas of "normal". The criticism of Huck Finn is laughable . "Twain was a racist." Well, duh, but not as big of one as most everyone else during that time.
What was really ironic is the ad for Amy Schumer's book on the page. LMAO Now THERE'S one you don't have to read.
I will choose the Bible every time. I read it daily and also receive scriptures. You cannot go wrong with the Bible.
