My, how times have changed.   When I was 14 and a freshman in h.s. , I brought an old 16 gauge shotgun to use for my semester's project in shop class. The teacher looked at it, asked if it was loaded and when I told him no, he handed it back to me. I redid the stock and re-blued the steel on it, got an "A" for the project.

Back then, a teacher might have been fired for discussing homosexuality. It wasn't that the school district was backward, but that most people then...and rightfully so...figured any discussion of sexual practices needed to be left in the privacy of the bedroom. Sex ed was not on the curriculum because that was also something that was left to the parents. Even if there had been, I could never imagine any of the teachers illustrating how to put a condom on by using a banana.
