Fox News

The mother of octuplets born in California last week is seeking $2 million from media interviews and commercial endorsements to help pay the costs of raising the children, the Times of London reported.

Nadya Suleman, 33, plans a career as a television childcare expert. It was learned last week that she already had six children before giving birth to eight more. She now has 14 children younger than 8 years old.

Although still confined to a Los Angeles hospital bed, Suleman reportedly intends to talk to two influential television hosts this week — media mogul Oprah Winfrey and Diane Sawyer.

Her family has told agents she needs cash from media deals.

Suleman is being deluged with offers for book deals, TV shows and other business proposals, but according to her publicist she hasn't decided what she might do once she leaves the hospital.

On Friday she retained the Killeen Furtney Group public relations firm to handle what company President Joann Killeen says are hundreds of offers arriving daily. They include requests for paid interviews, TV show appearances, book deals and other opportunities.

Killeen says Suleman is "the most sought after mom in the world right now," but she hasn't decided what she'll do next, other than care for her children.

But Suleman's earning power could be diminished by the growing ethical and medical controversies surrounding her octuplets' birth. Experts believe that the unnamed fertility specialists who gave her in vitro fertilization (IVF) should not have implanted so many embryos, and in choosing to carry all eight to term, Suleman ignored guidelines, risking both the babies' health and her own.

Public reaction has been mixed: Many have asked how an unemployed single mother can raise 14 children, as her first six have already strained the family budget. Angela and Ed Suleman, Nadya’s parents, bought her a two-bedroom bungalow in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier in March 2007, but soon fell on hard times and had to leave their own home.

I doubt if that's why she had the children, NBey. Personally I think she's crazy, but her father said she only wanted one more child. It's not even ethical for a doctor to perform IVF if a woman already has 6 children, and implanting 2 embryos is the norm.

By the way, the photos have nothing to do with the family. I haven't seen any pics of the mother and children in the news.

In my personal opinion, I think a small home with 17 people is dysfunction. Having said that, the media and all of us have no right to judge this woman. I mean, which is it? If she had undergone the procedure to "select" the healthiest babies, then isn't that worse than taking that "morning after" pill Palin & her supporters are against? At that point, there isn't even a confirmed pregnancy. So now someone brings all these children into the world (I hope they all live and are healthy) and people are attacking her judgment.

She said she didn't want any attention, but why not cash in on it, since she can possibly hold down a job outside of the home. Wouldn't you?   I mean, some of these politicians speak at a college or lecture and make $200,000 a pop. She popped 14 times! So 14 x $200,000 = $2.8M.

Blame the typos on my terrible back pain.

"Dysfunctional" and I meant "she CANNOT possibly" hold a job.

I just hope all the children receive all the love they need. I hope this was never her original intention, but records indicate she stopped working in 2002 when she began giving birth, although we really don't know that for a fact. She definitely needs the money.   If she was asking for welfare, then everyone would be complaining about that. I prefer Hollywood pay the tab than the taxpayers. If she can get $10 million for a movie, all the power to her!

To categorize 'Palin supporters' into one group-think lumped together bunch when it comes to birth control, responsible family planning is waaaaay off the mark. I personally believe life begins when a baby can live outside its mother .... personal belief right or wrong. Many people are 'conservatives' because of wanting limited government and fiscal responsibility in government. Also many conservatives didn't buy into the obvious press assassination of Palin because we saw how the press steered this past election cycle.

Hard core right to lifers might be a more appropriate term.

Okay, Konane. I will agree with you if people stop calling every Obama supporter a Liberal! :-)    I not only voted for him, I even canvassed the area (boy was that challenging in Lee County) in Oct & Nov and I disagree with him a lot. I've never supported a candidate because of one or two issues.

Back to the subject - nobody knows anything about this woman and the media started to invade her privacy immediately, mostly guessing why she had the children. I heard psychologists on CNN talking about her need to have children or that perhaps she thinks God spoke to her. That would make me so angry if I were she.
