My question?
Does the person that follows in the order of succession have the same power as commerce secretary?
If so there is no rush for someone to be appointed and go thru the lengthy process of confirmation.
Also the succesor to the position could carry on buisness as usual.

So do I and the vice president stepped in immediately as president. Giving the vice president the power of the presidency.
The point of my post here is the question asked in my comment.

I really don't know the answer to your question Jap. I would think the order of succession would prevail and he would have the same power.
What I would like to know is why the sudden departure ?
I know he's had difficulties with the administration, but it seems as though this has been hush hush, to this point.

"recent seizure and medical leave of absence." Had two car accidents because of seizures. He's 68 years old.
