Some of my now close friends have told told me that I ''sounded white' on the phone and in person. I've also wondered what that meant because proper English is just proper English. Sure, I use some slang and street talk lots of times...Ebonics as it's known. I like Ebonics and the only thing better than black Ebonics is WHITE EBONICS!!!!
Has anyone here ever heard a white person try and use the black vernacular? Man, is it ever funny but, it's also pretty cool! To hear my buddy Scott say, "Man, I'm gon' kick yo' azz!!" is just hilarious!!!! However, this is also sort of an art because it's much, much harder for black person that never uses proper English to be able to 'cross over' and speak properly. But, a black person that does use proper English regularly is able to blend right in with the street crowd's use of Ebonics. It's proven.
I personally like to hear young blacks use good English. I feel it has a lot to do with their parents and mostly their FRIENDS. The way a person speaks is definitely influenced by the environment they spend their time in and kids are with friends very often. We are judged by how we verbally interact with others EVERY TIME, and, how well we write for the most part. A fat finger here and there is one thing but, you can tell a lot about a person by their use punctuation and spelling. The ability to actually write your thoughts in paragraph form using analogies, third person, metaphors, etc. says everything. One line responses to a given topic is a dead ringer, in my opinion, that a person is unable to convey their thoughts via main idea and supporting details.
Any how, those are just my thoughts. Now, "I'm gon' git my azz outta here!" until the next great entry is posted.
