HowToWearIt: The Leather Dress
Published:
In this weekly feature, InStyle’s Senior Market Editor/Digital Correspondent Dana Avidan-Cohn shares tips and tricks on how to tackle the latest trends. Look for it on What’s Right Now every Friday and be sure to try out the trend yourself and tweet your look using #HowToWearIt.
Splurging on investment pieces is always a smart way to shop. Even though you have to spend a little more money on the front end, you can always justify your purchase by “price per wear” (think: the more you wear it, the more it’s worth the pricey ticket). A leather dress is both seasonless and luxe—not to mention, a statement dress creates a full look with just one piece.

Emmy Rossum (above) looked perfectly elegant in a slate gray leather dress by J. Mendel—the dress made such a statement that all Rossum needed was a simple bordeaux pump and clutch.
For resort season, designers like Tomas Maier and Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen played with variations in color while Nicolas Ghesquière of Vuitton offered a strong solid black hue.
Depending on the silhouette, you can wear the style off-duty, for a night out, or at the office. Black, grey, navy, and tan are good choices because they are so easy to restyle with each wear. Whatever you choose, don’t be afraid to try the unexpected and couple it with a cool fashion sneaker and wool coat for the weekend!
