Time Is Quickly Running Out for One Lucky Winner of Huge Illinois Lottery Prize

A $14 million Illinois Lottery jackpot will expire at midnight on January 31, 2005 if no winner steps forward with the winning ticket.

If the jackpot remains unclaimed, it will be the largest unclaimed prize in Illinois Lottery history.

All Lottery players in the border states of Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, and Kentucky; as well as anyone that has traveled to Illinois and played the Lottery are urged to check for the winning ticket.

The winning Lotto numbers 14 - 23 - 24 - 36 - 37 - 50 were drawn on January 31, 2004 and the winning ticket was sold at Gas City #86 located at 855 Center Rd. in Frankfort, IL.

According to Lottery rules, players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prize and must submit a claim form and the original winning ticket for verification before receiving their money.

"Fourteen million dollars is a huge jackpot and we really want this winner to get their money," said Illinois Lottery Superintendent Carolyn Adams. "We have done a fair number of in-state interviews about this prize to date and are even starting to go outside of the state to let people know because there is no telling where the winner or the ticket could be. Many people play the Lottery while traveling or while in the state visiting, so the winner could also be someone from outside of Illinois."

Having a Lottery jackpot this large remain unclaimed is rare, but not unheard-of. The largest unclaimed Illinois Lottery prize to date was a $6 million jackpot from September 9, 2000. The second largest was a $3 million unclaimed prize from November 11, 2000 and the third largest was a $2.5 million prize from May 5, 2003.

When prizes go unclaimed, the Lottery will post announcements on its Web site, send informational flyers to the retailer that sold the winning ticket, issue press releases, and schedule media interviews to talk about the jackpots as their expiration dates get closer. However, when a prize does expire, the money is added to the Lottery's contribution to the State Common School Fund. Last year, the Lottery contributed $570 million to this fund in support of K- 12 education in the state.

"Over the last few weeks, we have seen a number of false claims come into our office as the date for this jackpot's expiration draws closer. But until we receive that winning ticket for verification, the prize remains unclaimed," said Superintendent Adams.

"We encourage all of our players to please be mindful of their ticket expiration dates," added Superintendent Adams. "Make sure to check your numbers regularly against the ones listed in your local newspaper or on our Web site. You can also watch live drawings at various times on WGN-TV, and if you have any questions about whether you have a winning ticket, you can call the Lottery Claims Office at 217-524-5150."

Is this the same jackpot as in this LotteryPost "Unclaimed $14 M In Jeopardy Of Disappearing" news article recently?

Heybbar3bie, where's your friend?

Maverick's avatarMaverick

These people just come outta the woodwork at Lottery Post dont they? lol

Maverick's avatarMaverick

bbar3bie PM'd me with this: Do you know anything about the ticket?  You implied that you did??  I am awaiting a phone call, but it has not come.

No, I do not know anything about the ticket. Show me where I implied that I did. I don't know what you mean by "phone call". Please post your talks in public, so that we all can make something out of it. Thank you.

Btw, is the claim-deadline almost over?

if this person does, then they only have a couple days left to claim it.

Maverick,

I had to delete a couple of your posts because you pasted HTML into your reply, and it was wrecking the display.  Please only paste text into a message; don't highlight a large section of a web page, copy, and paste into a message.  I wouldn't care if you did it, except that by doing so it's corrupting the display.

Aye Aye Chief. I was wondering where it went heh.

The best thing to do to is either be careful just to highlight the text that you're copying, or else paste into Windows Notepad, and the copy and paste from there (which will remove all formatting).

It apparently was really 'lost'.............he is now residing in Madison,WI...............it seems as tho perhaps the ticket was destroyed by an overwrought girlfriend.  What a pity for those four wonderful children....their college education has just flown out the window..

... as bbar3bie said, in a safe deposit box, lost, destroyed.. what else can the story be? There was a "newbie" with 1 or 2 posts who came out defending Jack Whitaker and Juan Rodriguez too. "They" somehow are always hovering over LP AND happen to know these jackpot winners

I saw that it was official today as well Dr. Ew. There is a guy from Thailand that works with us, he came in while we were talking about it and he says that he hadn't checked about a years worth of tickets. All of us look at each other, we checked all of his tickets and thank god he didn't have the winning one. I think that it is in someone's kitchen drawer at home and was never checked.
