An Auburn, Ga., painter has won $1 million from a scratch-off ticket, Georgia Lottery officials said.

Jefferson Shaw formally was presented an oversized check with his winnings by lottery officials on Wednesday.

Shaw purchased the instant game $200 Million Cash Spectacular ticket last month at Big H Quick Mart in Lawrenceville. He won the game's top prize.

Shaw said he scratched the ticket in the store and yelled, "I just won a million dollars!"

The painter said he's still thinking about how to spend his winnings.

"This is a good thing. Im going to try to do good with it," he said, according to a Georgia Lottery statement.

Must have been quite a thrill, something of that sort happening on a scratcher.

Congrats to him. Painter's a good job not to have to spend his life doing.

I wonder what a million dollar scratcher looks like. Say its a game where you have to match your numbers to the winning numbers. Do you think every prize is a million dollars and one of the numbers is a match to insure that you realize you have a winning ticket ( where there isnt an oversee). Or do you think the lottery would prefer to have you not notice and hopefully throw the ticket in the garbage.  Anyone ever see a big winner like that? A lot of scratch offs have very noticeable patterns.  I hate the games where the prize is spelled out in three letters while your scratching the card. The letters are in different places on the board.  Takes all the fun away.

Well I've seen two $50,000 winners before.  The winning number was the same for both prizes.

I play this game regularly- It is 6 numbers at the top, and 15 chances below to match any of the numbers. The one mil is indeed spelled out under one of the numbers as follows: $1,000,000 with a little "onemil" printed under it.

If lucky enough to match it, the payout is $50K per year pre-tax for 20 years. No cash option.

Best I've done so far is $200, but my father in law got $1K.

I like the game, because there are 20 jackpots out there and over 11,000 prizes ranging from $1K to $50K.

I wonder if this was a Lottery Post member who won this prize or a frequent reader of the site. His last line " I'm going to try to do good with it" suggest to me that he has been reading some wild stories about what crazy thinks some people have done with big wins. And what better place to have read these stories than right here, on THE LOTTERY POST.    Thumbs Up  Congratulations to him.

For me, that would be a perfect retirement supplement!

CASH Only

I hope this is GA's sole annuity-only scratch game. MA and my NY have quite a few between them.

Good point , Chewie...Not a lifestyle-changer, but a supplement.

The guy thinks he won a million dollars, but when he gets the first check of

~$35K or so, reality will set in. He had better be wise, cause it's a long time until he

sees the next check..... I would prefer the cash option if I won it , but it is what it

is...

I agree, and it would be nice to finally see a member of Lottery Post quoted in a news story saying hello to their fellow members!

I have the feeling that Lottery Commissions may see the mentioning of The Lottery Post as an advertisement for this site and not allow it. When I win a Jackpot, I will certainly try to mention the site, even if I have to do it in code. EX. ( I'd like to thank all of my friends at a .com site that I freqent).

CASH Only

I'm thinking maybe the reason the game is annuity-only is that the GA lottery head used to run the corrupt NY Lottery. Wonder if GA will come out with more scratches without a cash option.

Chewie

In NJ you must participate in a news conference. Surely, some one will publish the "I use the 'Lottey Post' to pick my numbers" quote. I bet the hits would go through the roof.

If a member of Lottery Post ever win big in any lottery, wearing their LP cap or T-shirt will do the the job even if they can't mention the name.Wink
