Largest Powerball lottery jackpot in two years; three players win $1 million with Power Play

The Powerball jackpot continues its upward climb.

Even though the grand prize was not awarded Saturday, three lucky players in Montana, South Carolina, and South Dakota each won $1 million with Power Play.  A total of 1,328,695 players across the nation won more than $14.5 million in prizes in "America's Game".

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $240 million.

The last time the jackpot got to this level was on July 9, 2003, when the jackpot was $261 million (and was won in that drawing).

The cash option for the Wednesday, October 12th drawing will be an estimated $117.7 million.

The numbers drawn Saturday evening were 26, 31, 35, 46, 50 and the Powerball was 28. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

Ten players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000. Their winning tickets were purchased in Colorado, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania (4), Rhode Island, and Tennessee. The three lucky players in Montana, South Carolina, and South Dakota not only matched the 5 white numbers, but also purchased the Power Play and multiplied their $200,000 prize by 5 for a total win of a cool $1 million cash.

Eighty-one players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Six additional winners of that prize category also purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $50,000.

More than 144,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than $55.5 million worth of tickets between Thursday and Saturday night. The lotteries sold approximately 2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY05. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

This is really the biggest jackpot for them in 2 years?  I bet they are pattening themselves on the back for adding those 2 white balls.  haha

If you were a Gold or Platinum member, you could see the entire history of the Powerball jackpots (or any game for that matter).  Here's the Jackpot History page for Powerball: https://www.lotterypost.com/game/4/jackpot

That's the best compliment I could receive.  Thanks much. Cheers

I'm glad I don't have to go out of state to play. But I'm still only going to buy a couple of tickets.

I live on a border Town so I have the option to play both should I desire.

I used to play a $5.00 power ball for 4 draws until the change. I like the 250k second tier prize and with pp it makes it even more exciting. Now having wasted all your time reading my stuff. I play a $1.00 ticket with pp for ten draws. I remember reading on here that after all only one ticket wins ( well maybe I should say one set of numbers)

have  said all that more rambling than anything heres hoping that each and everyone of you can win the big one at one time in your life................... me I would be just happy with a small win

Powerball's second-tier prize is $200K.  Mega Millions's is $250K.  Just an "FYI".

Any ideas as to how much the powerball would climb to if no one wins this Wednesday?

Powerplay's definitely paying off for more players, or getting more press for the wins that happen.

As for the Platinum Membership features, once a person has them a while it's easy to take them for granted, like cars, computers, super-highways and cell-phones.  Reflecting back I always wonder why I waited so long to do it and chide myself for the waiting.

Good jackpot, but the jackpot history is interesting, also.

your ramblings are music to my ears. the mutlidraw is the only way i play powrball now. i don't have the luxury of living on a border town ( oh how i wish). i went on a trip in september and i got powerball from kansas, missouri, and minnesota! if my plans go well. i will add pensylvania to that list of states i have powerball tickets. minnesota has 8 draw max, kansas and missouri  have 15 draw max, and PA has 26 for a max. i always spend 2 dollars and powerplay. so you do the math. i like powerball.

so you go and ramble some more because i am listening to you.
