Mega Millions

The jackpot in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery grew to $256 million Saturday.

None of the tickets sold for Friday's $212 million drawing matched all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball. The next drawing will be Tuesday.

There were 22 second prize winners: 4 from California, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Illinois, 1 from Massachusetts, 3 from Michigan, 3 from New Jersey, 4 from New York, 2 from Ohio, 2 from Texas, and 1 from Virginia.  Each ticket matched all five lotto numbers but not the Mega Ball number to win $250,000.

The California second prize winners will receive $205,884 each, since California pays prizes based on the amount of sales combined with the number of winners, rather than using the fixed prize amounts the other states use.

Also, 190 tickets matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000.  41 of those tickets were sold in California and will receive $5,478.

The winning numbers from Friday's drawing were: 3, 5, 12, 16 and 34. The Mega Ball number was 27.

The Texas Megaplier was 3.

The Tuesday $256 million jackpot is the largest Mega Millions jackpot in more than three months.  The last time it was this big was Tuesday, November 15, 2005, when one player won a $315 million jackpot.

Guess "the odds" were against me.  I did hit the $3.00 megaball on one ticket though!  Eat your heart out!

Hummm, notice how they NEVER mention that the promoted number is only valid if you choose annuity, and if the investment works out as planned!  You are expected to read all the documents associated with the Mega Millions Lottery, plus all the documentation from the state you buy the ticket in.  If the automobile industry fails, the advertisers will always have a future in the lottery industry.

I like the concept of an European lottery. You get cash that is advertise, tax-free, right on the spot. Claiming money is done in front of cameras but with total anonymity . Very interesting. I guess they don't publish your name and address.

Again, it DOES NOT MATTER if they publish your name or not!  You cannot hide!!!!!!!  What is so difficult about that concept?  You cannot hide.  Some where in the world, there is a relative, a friend, an enemy, or some one out walking their dog, who will find out about it, and B-A-M, the world will know.  It will be a tax adviser, a lawyer, a bank official, a secretary, maybe the trash man sees you hiding in the closet, maybe the guy you bought the dozen guard dogs from, or the pregnant nun at the pub.  Some one, some place will shoot their mouth off!  You cannot go from $180 in the bank, to a multimillionaire status, and keep it a secret!!  Sheeesh!!!

All you can do, is plan for the event, and be smart enough to use it to your advantage.  Or not!  Millions of people stand around waiting for mud to be splached on them every day.  Your choice.  The mud doesn't care.  Who is smarter, the mud or you??????????????????

Way to go MM.  I did not think you would let PB steal your thunder!  You go.  You have prompted me to join a lottery pool, MM.  Now the odds will be better for me.  Good thing the pool wants to do what I want to do with my winnings.  Without reading the stories, we have a contract!  Press, be cautious, honor our privacy.  We will just give ya' what is required by the MM rules as far as publicity.  Now Mega Millions, if you beat the record's highest jackpot, this pool of winners will make you the talk of the lottery world!Cool.  So keep growing your jackpot.  This will be a prize claimed like none other---Your one day press event will go down in history!  That is a promise; now you need to make this a jackpot that will go down in world history.  Let this jackpot be untouched in Guiness for a century!  Okay, just make it the biggest in the world.  Come on, you can do it!  Let's hear it for $536,000,000.00.  You can top this in a couple of years, not a century.CoolOur pool claims this victory at this time, this year, right now, it is ours!

Hmmm.  That was my 200th post!  Good things happen in increments of 100 for me.  Hmmm.  Mega Millions, I asked for a World Record Jackpot, but I will gladly settle for $2,000,000, or $200,000.00, even $2,000.00.

Is it a record if you claim the cash?  Not in Powerball!  Since the 8 meatpackers chose cash, is there still a record to be met?  Since the works who won the $310M chose cash, is there still a record?  Or is it all hyper for nothing?

The May 2000 cash option of The Big Game (forerunner of MM) had a cash option of $180+ million.  That is still the record in my books.

Those making money on deception only become honest when they are about to go to jail - or about to die.  Humm, ciminals do the same thing.  I wonder if there is a relationship!

Your book is slightly out of date, but at least it's based on reality. The only things anyone with sense would recognize as records would be things that have actually happened. So far neither Powerball or Megamillions has given away a prize that even came close to what they have claimed as records.

The prize you mention is no longer  the US record, though.  The megamillions prize that was hyped as $315 million last November paid about 186 million in cash. That makes it the record holder for a US lottery game. Recently the cash value for Megamillions has been running between 58.5 and 60% of the annuity value. The Big Game cash prize was slightly less than 50% of the advertised jackpot,at least for that particular draw. When it was won either the payment structure was  different or interest rates were a bit higher, resulting in the ability to offer a bigger annuity with any given amount of cash. Stringing out the annuity payments  is why Powerball is hyping smaller payment as a new records, though the latest one did set a real record for a Powerball payout. The ironic thing is that they've spent so much time hyping the annuity values that when Megamillions took the record for a single ticket prize they never said boo.

Party              I Agree!             Party

I didn't know that back in November the cash option was that high.

Well then I do have to update.  I agree though.  Interest rates were higher back then so that probably accounted for the lower cash option.

The record is currently held by Euromillions at 219 million. Really doubt Mega's going to break it this time around.
