When Sister Mary Concetta Torrillo of Webster Groves hit the Missouri Lottery's Show Me Cash jackpot on May 13, it meant a $55,000 gift for the Sisters of Loretto, a convent in Kentucky she served for 30 years.

A regular Show Me Cash player, Torrillo said she enjoys playing the game for the fun of it. However, the vow of poverty she had taken ultimately led to her decision to donate the prize money, instead of claiming it for herself.

Her ticket held the winning combination of: 1, 6, 15, 25, and 29. It marked the 200th Show Me Cash jackpot-winning ticket sold since the game began on Sept. 8, 2008.

Show Me Cash offers a rolling jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases by at least $5,000 at each daily drawing. Players select a set of five numbers between 1 and 39 or use the Quick Pick feature to allow the computer to randomly choose the numbers for them.

Thanks to Coin Toss for the tip.

The winnings were all donated to a charity.

congrat's to Sister Mary Torrillo & the Sister of Loretto Convent; With the vows the nuns take. I am not surprised at her decision.

It went to The Sisters Of Loretto, the same convent that she was a member of for 30 years. So,I'll ask again, didn't the Sisters of Loretto take the same vow of poverty that she took?

yes , they all take the same vows , she give to the convent not the sisters personally. Meaning that if this covent need some repair work done now would be the time to do it. Must of the parishers are in clusters now. you have to go turn a lot more people to get things done in the clusters {muli- churches put together], by saying she giving it to Sisters of Loretto convent the money can be use for improvement in that convent not another in the church clusters.

Thanks for the answer to my question, cbr$.Not being a catholic,I'm unfamiliar with the ways of their church.I assumed that she was giving the money to the sisters personaly, sort of like making and end run around the vow of poverty.

Some one should tell her about Lottery Post prediction board.  She could continue enjoying picking numbers to play and not have to worry about violating her vows of poverty when she wins.

Anyone wanting to remain poor doesn't have to do any fancy foot work or tricks to remain so.
