A man from west Dublin, Ireland, has described winning €500,000 in the EuroMillions multi-country game as a "pleasant shock".
He was the sole winner of the EuroMillions Plus €500,000 top prize in last Friday's draw.
EuroMillions Plus is an add-on game played only in Ireland that enters the first five numbers on your EuroMillions game ticket in a special Plus drawing held in Ireland the same evening. Adding EuroMillions Plus costs an extra €1 over the regular cost of a EuroMillions ticket.
The winner, who requested that his identity remain anonymous, bought his ticket in the Spar on Dodsboro Road in Lucan last Friday.
"I checked the results on Aertel on Friday night and it was certainly a shock when I saw I'd won — but a very pleasant shock," he said.
When picking up his money at the National Lottery offices today, he said, "I live a pretty simple life so I won't be running out and buying a Lamborghini. Top of the list is to buy a new shower door. And to pay the bills."
There have been 15 winners of the EuroMillions Plus €500,000 top prize so far in 2015, with €7.5 million paid out in EuroMillons Plus top prizes this year to date.

Thanks to myturn for the tip.
Congratulation to the winner. He wants to keep his life simple. Since he claimed the money anonymous, it could happen.
definately, no problem with that :).
so crazy I know what it would feel like.... BUT i have NO idea!
seems like a nice guy with a good head on his shoulders
Sounds Like a Good Plan: Good Luck to the Winner!
Half a million is more there than here in the US, but still not wealthy. Glad to see he's a practical down-to-earth guy. Bet we won't see him on any "I won the lottery and now I'm broke" shows.
Congratulations and Good Luck!
Congratulations !!! Irish words and phrases are like Greek to me. Even though I do have Irish blood in my veins.
Congrats to the lucky guy, enjoy you door.
If that picture is truly his shower, he is doing better than the average citizen. Was expecting to see something decrepit looking.
But he did say that he lives a simple life so he sounds like a frugal chap.
At least it wasn't a bicycle!
"If that picture is truly his shower"
I'm going to take the absurdly dangerous risk of assuming that a guy who is remaining anonymous didn't invite the lottery over to take a picture of a shower door he's going to buy. OTOH, I suppose that's no less bizarre than including a generic picture of a shower door in the story.
What is wrong with a bicycle?? I may replace my Trek with a newer model if I win. A bicycle is much more expensive than a shower door. In fact you could remodel that entire bathroom cheaper than some of the high end bikes.
LOL, pickone4me! Fun, I get it ... you were poking some jovial fun at years past huge lottery jackpot winner Brad!
That's probably the best way to go about it, don't really change you life that much and just buy small stuff and get accustomed to having the money.
