BOSTON — A Medford, Massachusetts, man cashing in a $1,000 scratch ticket won another $1 million after he stopped to buy another ticket in the lobby of the Massachusetts State Lottery's Braintree headquarters.
Chi Chan arrived in Braintree on Wednesday to redeem his $1,000 winner. On his way out Chan bought a $30 ticket at the vending machine inside lottery headquarters.
A short time after, Chan was at the bank when he scratched the ticket and found he had won $1 million.
On Thursday, Chan returned to Braintree to cash in his latest winnings.
The Medford resident opted to receive the prize in a one-time cash payment of $650,000 before taxes.
Chan isn't the only lottery winner in the Boston area to cash in on a large sum of money more than once. In fact, a woman from Lynn won two $1 million prizes over the course of 7 months, said Teja — her first win was in June and her second in January.
"Ultimate Millions," the game Chan won his larger prize on, had only gone on sale a day before he won the $1 million.
There are four $15 million prizes and 65 $1 million prizes left in the Ultimate Millions instant game.
The WWE has the Ultimate Warrior and Massachusetts has the Ultimate Millionaire thanks to Ultimate Millions!
In the 2nd paragraph of the article, can we change "case" to cash?
Thanks
Hearty Congratulations to Chi Chan on the double win!
That's really nice, Congrats Mr, Chan.

Yea who wrote this article. Also says "he opted to receive the prize in a one time cash payment of $650,000 before taxes". I think thats after taxes.
nope, that's the base reduction in the value of the win if you choose the cash option. at least another 33% will be requested by federal and state tax vultures by next april.
I think all headquarters are lucky.
WTG.
More good luck.
Isn't that horrible?
You really, really need to win something significant to be considered "ahead".
I hate that.
He looks like a player! He might just be back in the headlines. WTG!!
What a scam. A million should mean a million regardless.
I'm telling you, man.
"All Prizes Are Tax Paid." Should be the next advertised incentive for players.
Us regular players, here, play no matter what. But, I see this coming down the road.
Any comments on that?
Isn't that what the Hot Lotto did? well maybe not all prizes but the jackpot I think is.
a million turned into 434,000 that he could deposit into bank since the feds took out their 28% and the state took their 5% right off the top. if he files he will get some of that back maybe next year. probably in this case should have take the 20 year's worth of 50,000 a year which would have only gotten him 33,500 annually.
Wow. That was a big time win. Congratulations to the winner.
Good for him, thats exciting!
i wonder if he tried the vending machine on his way out
The second time....
Or if headquarters is gonna be his goto lotto spot now..
Did I read that right? 65 million dollar prizes being offered? ?? That's got to be a $30 ticket at least
It does say in the article that he bought a $30 ticket.
Congratulations Mr. Chan.......
In Tennessee if you win 1 million or more on a scratcher then you must take it over 20-25 years. That sucks. If you win 1 million in powerball you get it all after taxes or take it over so many years. Just not fair on scratchers.
now i see why residents bad mouth the tennessee lottery. why would an older player buy scratch tickets and end up being stuck with a 20 year annuity payout. not that it would be the end of the world if it happened but older players are willing to suck up the loss and take the lump sum in most cases. not in tn though. eeks.
Sounds like he stepped in some luck before cashing that first ticket.
Kinda like being in the right place at the right time.
Congrats!
No wonder I never win anything big on the NY scratch-off tickets, the biggest second prize on any scratch-off ticket right now is only $200,000, only 4 second prizes available on that one, that really stinks compared to 65 one million dollar prizes on that Mass. ticket! I always buy tickets at NY Lottery headquarters, the most I've won is $40.00 on a scratch-off! Now that I realize the NY scratch-offs have such paltry second prizes, I'll stop buying them.Congrats to the winner!
