DENVER, Colo. — A Kentucky native who fell on hard times in Colorado recently had a change of fortune when he won $50,000 in the state's lottery.

Colorado Lottery officials say Adam H. claimed the jackpot from the Poker Celebration game on Feb. 23. He'll receive $35,500 after taxes are withheld.

Colorado state law allows lottery winners to be identified by first name and last initial to provide partial protection of a winner's identity.

Adam H. was living at the Denver Rescue Mission when he bought the Poker Celebration scratch off ticket. The odds of winning were 1 in 520,000.

The lucky winner told lottery officials that he is going to use the prize money to move back to Kentucky so he can be with his daughter.

Poker Celebration is a $3 scratch game, and Adam claimed the game's last available top prize of $50,000.

Good for you, Adam!  Surprised it wasn't a 20 something hedge-fund manager.

Congratulations Adam H. !!! Moving back to Kentucky to be with his child is a smart decision. Adam H.'s money will last a bit longer than it would in Denver, Colorado.

The Denver Rescue Mission should be praised as a good safety net. When Americans fall onto hard times they will need help to get back up.

Keep playing because you never know!

Congratulations!

I was prejudiced I suppose, thought it was an old codger that won.  Nice pleasant surprise and good for him.

Congrats Adam.  Congrats to Denver to at least keeping his last name private altho Adam probably should have taken a smiley face in place of his own or NO picture.

I wonder where he got the money to buy the winning ticket? He certainly looks healthy enough to support a job of some sort.Let's hope he turns his life around.

Good job Adam H.  I know you'll have a nice little gift for your daughter.
May fortune continue to follow you around, from here, on.

OK, I have to go now, "and count my pennies".

OK, everyone: for tonight's PB, good luck!

My same sentiments.... being homeless, but spent prolly his last 3 bucks to buy a lottery ticket.

So i am in agreement with you, i hope he does turn his life around....he look young enough to work....and why did he leave his daughter in first place.  sometimes things just dont make sense.  but since he  has won i hope he spends it wisely and finds a good job to support his daughter.
