CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Ohio Lottery is undertaking several new initiatives expected to increase revenue and offer new options to players.

Here's what's new:

Cashless payments

Lottery self-service terminals now accept credit and debit cards and eWallet payments.

The lottery began installing payment systems last fall on instant ticket kiosks and self-service games. All pin pads should be installed by mid-February.

Once complete, there will be 7,550 self-service terminals with cashless pin pads. Cashless sales through last week were $4.23 million.

There is a $100-per-day limit per card.

The lottery will begin converting terminals at retail locations to accept credit and debit cards. That should be complete by fall.

Play at the gas pump

Play at the Pump equipment will be installed on April 29. The specific date when it will be offered has not yet been finalized, spokesman Danielle Frizzi-Babb said in an email.

A handful of states, including California and North Carolina, offer the option.

In California, players swipe their credit or debit card at the pump before making a fuel purchase and choose to play Powerball, Mega Miillions or a SuperLotto game. There is a $1 flat fee per transaction. Players also must verify that they are 18 years old by using a drivers license or state-issued ID. Players will get a receipt from the fuel pump with their numbers on it or can receive a text message.

New Games

The lottery also has added several games, including 400 terminals that offer Touch & Win. The games are based on a traditional Keno game. Players can wager 25 cents to $5.

The Lucky One is the second "quick draw" game that offers drawings every four minutes after Keno drawings at retail locations. Players can bet from $1 to $50.

Play at the checkout

This is a pilot program that the lottery is exploring. It would allow a customer to buy a Powerball or Mega Millions gift card that can be scanned through the retailers' terminal, then used by the customer or given as a gift.

I think is a good idea as long as folks think with their heads.  Probably why there is $100/day limit; good idea.

Today I had thought of going to Ohio to the casino that has a self service lottery machine right in the casino but not feeling it now!

The UK Lottery also offers online subscriptions, which are paid by monthly direct debit. All small prizes are automatically credited to bank accounts. For jackpots, and large prizes, the lottery will contact the winners, to make payment arrangements.
