Old desktop, mobile websites retired

New unified website is the future of the popular lottery brand

MARTINSVILLE, N.J. — Lottery Post Founder Todd Northrop today announced the launch of the new Lottery Post website, unifying the mobile and desktop experience and implementing numerous improvements, while positioning the popular lottery website for the future.

In an intense but carefully-orchestrated two-year project, the world's most popular website devoted to official government-run lottery games completed its rebuild today, retiring the old desktop and mobiles websites. Previously, Lottery Post visitors would use different websites when visiting on mobile devices and desktop computers.

The rebuild of the website was first made public in June, when Lottery Post announced the availability of a special preview website, allowing anyone to try out the new website before the old one was retired. A video hosted by Northrop explained the steps leading up to the development of the new website, as well as a demonstration of several key new features.

(See LOTTERY POST ANNOUNCES NEXT CHAPTER OF WEBSITE, Lottery Post, June 24, 2022.)

Lottery Post members and visitors do not need to do anything differently to access the new website. Even for pages where the link (URL) of the page has changed, the new website will automatically redirect the browser to the correct page.

The only case where users may have to do a little "work" is if they installed Lottery Post as an icon on their device's home screen. In that case, Lottery Post recommends long-pressing on the home screen icon and selecting the Remove/Uninstall option. After the icon is uninstalled, the Add to Home Screen can once again be used to add a fresh installation of the new website on the device's home screen.

Getting to today's launch was no easy task, given the website's scope and complexity. When the multi-year project started, Lottery Post's founder and developer was not even certain it was possible to rebuild the entire thing.

"Given the millions of pages and hundreds of thousands of lines of code that operate the website, the project appeared so daunting at the beginning that I wondered if it would be possible to rebuild it all," Northrop explained. "After about 10 months enough was built that I could start to document all the parts that were remaining. It was a huge list, but at that point I could start to see that it was actually possible to finish the whole thing, and I could even start to estimate the number of months left to completion."

In June the new website was launched as a special preview, running in parallel to the old website so that people could try out the new website, while still having access to the one one.

In the time since that preview launch, Lottery Post members and visitors tried the new website and provided hundreds of items of feedback. As the feedback came in, the preview website was continually improved in response, documented on the website's What's New page.

Now, around two months after that first preview was introduced, the old desktop and mobile websites are retired — replaced by the new Lottery Post.

But the launch of the new website is not the end — it's actually a new beginning. Lottery Post will continue carefully monitoring feedback about the website, making changes and improvements where necessary. Also, the important technology advances in the new website create a much better platform for implementing new features, so Lottery Post members and visitors can expect new exciting things to be coming in the future.

"I want to thank all the loyal Lottery Post members who built such a vibrant and thriving community over the last 22 years," Northrop said. "The new website is an expression of my gratitude for their support, and my hope is that Lottery Post is better than ever as a home for every lottery player for far into the future."

Thanks to those who posted such nice compliments!  Much appreciated.

To those with a less-than-great reaction, that's fine too.  I totally understand that change can be disruptive.  But I assure you that everything you could do on the old website you can do on the new one — and most of the time it is better/more powerful on the new website.  Take some time to use the new one for a while before you throw your hands in the air and give up.

Also, sorry for the approximate hour of downtime this afternoon.  You can think of it as "growing pains" as we figure out the ins and outs of our new technology.

There may be another period of downtime later today, but I'm hoping it will only be the 10 seconds or so that should be a normal part of an update.  If it's longer than that, we're definitely aware and we are trying to minimize downtime as much as possible.  I appreciate your patience!

Sure you can.  Everything from the old website is still there.  Click the Results menu, then either choose a state from the grid, or scroll down below the grid to see links to the other results pages.  (Or, on a computer you can see all the links when your mouse hovers over the Results menu.)

I gave the site a "WOW" when I first looked and it still is. Not having any problems finding all the features I've used for years. If anything, they are easier to find.

There seems to be alot of confusion about the "all results" on one page but it is there and easier to read! Just click on "Results" and scroll down to "Daily Numbers Games". Click on that and you get the midday and evening results as they come in.

The site is definitely alot faster and smoother. Great job Todd! I love it!

Thank you Chris.

The other confusion is that the page is not called "all results on one page".  It is called "Daily Numbers Games".

There actually was a page called All Results on One Page, but that has been eliminated because it was redundant.  Custom Lottery Results can do the same thing.

So early on when people were looking for "all results on one page" I thought they were looking for the eliminated page.  Turns out they were looking for Daily Numbers Games.

Because phone users now use the main section pages instead of drop-down menus, they did not know to scroll down below the grid to find the links.  I think I may move those links up to the top so they are easier to find.

Todd's avatarTodd

When using Lottery Post on a phone:

  • There is no longer a separate desktop and mobile website.  They are now one unified website that is the same for all devices.
  • You do not see drop-down menus at the top when using a phone.  Instead, tap on the menu item, and the page you see has all the same options/links that would have appeared in the drop-down menu on a computer (or when you previously used the desktop website on a phone).
  • For example, for the Daily Numbers Games page, click the Results menu at the top, then scroll down and tap the Daily Numbers Games link.

The drop-down menus are for use with a mouse only.  If you are using a touch screen, the pages themselves become the "menus", because touch screens are not very good with drop-down menus.  So you tap the menu and select the link of the page you want.  That is two taps (one for the menu and one for the link), which is the same or fewer number of "taps" required on the old desktop website when using a phone.  (One tap to open the menu, then another tap to select them menu item — or additional taps if there is a submenu required.)

It would be nice to have an option to go back and use the old site.  Or some kind of condensed version.  This new site seems like everything is hidden.   I like the old site much better.  I ran into a friend at the store and he said the same thing.

The old site is gone and will not be coming back, for the many reasons I explained in numerous news stories and forum posts.

I agree, there are people who won't like the new website right away. One thing I have learned over the 22 years I have run this website is that some people will hate whatever changes I make. Small or big changes, there will always be haters.

However, many of the people wishing desperately for the website to remain on the old one are the same people who expressed hatred for it when it was new.

Lesser spam,   better productive,    this site will take a little bit of time to get used too.   I honestly like the other way on the site.   But we shall see.

I can no longer see all P3 and P4 results on same screen without scrolling right on my mobile.  This is what many people are upset about.

You can always turn your phone to the side if you have a small phone screen and want to see a complete chart left-to-right without scrolling.  Making the text even smaller would upset all the people who already say the text is too small.  So turning your phone to the side to see a wide chart on the page all at once is the solution.

MsBee18

What I like so far about the new site is the header up top. I go straight to the Forums. I'm an Android user. Being able to see "Messages" on my mobile device is nice. That's about all at this point. On my 2nd day so might observe another function after I use this version more.

The old site was more readable than this one.

Dlovely888

I could see it before without scrolling or turning my phone on the side.  I appreciate the updates you've made and understand change is difficult.  However, this is a very important feature.....so many people in the lottery groups I am in on FaceBook are complaining about this one feature.  I believe it has to do with Desktop view.  So, I googled that and tried making lottery post desktop view in my Chrome browser on my mobile phone.  That worked although the change wasn't permanent and I will have to do that every time I open the LP icon which is multiple times a day.  This truly is something that needs to be addressed.  Thank you for understanding.

scorpio45

thanks Todd,works for me.

Dlovely888

Also, in the lottery groups I'm in, members take screenshots of the board after mid and after all draws (see attached for reference).  This is not possible any longer from a phone.

How can we see up to 30 days on one page?

But THIS Morning when I TRIED It AGAIN and IT WORKED a second or 2 after waiting=== I AM NOW BACK to HAPPY CAMPER...

If you want to take a screenshot on a phone that includes an entire scrolling page, use an app designed to do that.

Here's the first result I found when I googled for such a thing. Both Android and iOS.
