The Nebraska Lottery director will not face criminal charges over a trip to Greece with his wife, whose expenses were paid by a lottery vendor, the attorney general said Thursday.
An investigation concluded James Quinn always intended to repay the $5,000 cost of his wife's trip, Attorney General Jon Bruning said. Public officials are banned from accepting gifts of travel or lodging for their spouse while on state business.
Quinn, who has been suspended with pay, did not return a message left at his home Thursday. Tax Commissioner Mary Jane Egr said she will complete an internal report before deciding on any disciplinary action.
Quinn paid for the trip in late January after delays due to work issues and the Christmas holiday, Bruning said.
The Quinns went to Greece in September so the lottery director could inspect operations of Intralot, which was recently selected as Nebraska's online game vendor.
Intralot, owned by Greek tycoon Socrates Kokkalis, has extensive lottery operations outside the United States and wants to expand here.
