Powerball

Powerball paid off big for one lucky ticket Wednesday night.  The winning ticket worth $21.1 million was purchased in Minnesota.

The winner will now have to decide between the 29-year, 30-payment annuity and the cash option worth $11.1 million.  The winner will have 60 days after their ticket is validated to make that decision.

In addition to the jackpot winner, 310,533 other Powerball players across the nation won a total of almost $3.1 million in cash prizes.

The numbers drawn were: 18, 25, 30, 34, 41 and the Powerball was 10. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

Four players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Arizona, Kentucky, Vermont, and Wisconsin. The winning Vermont player purchased the Power Play option. By spending the extra dollar, they were able to multiply their prize by 5 for a total win of $500,000!

Twenty-two players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Two of those players purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $25,000.

More than 43,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than 11 million tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night.

The jackpot for the Saturday, July 10 drawing will be $10 million with a cash option of $5.3 million.

The lotteries sold more than $2 billion in Powerball tickets in 2003. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.
