With six offers on the table, the North Carolina Education Lottery will be moving all of its headquarters staff and operations to a bigger office campus in north Raleigh by next summer.
The lottery office in September had issued a request for proposals for a need to lease about 100,000 square feet of office and warehouse space, which is more than double the space that the N.C. Lottery currently occupies at its headquarters on Yonkers Road.
Of the six offers received, the lowest bid came from BPG Investment Partnership, owner of the nearly 550,000-square-foot office and warehouse complex at 2728 Capital Blvd.
The State Property Office has worked a deal on behalf of N.C. Lottery to lease 100,250 square feet at 2728 Capital Blvd., according to documents from the Council of State. New space will include 19,000 square feet of warehouse space for storage, and a portion of the office space will be subleased by its gaming vendor.
The lease, effective next July, will be for 10 years at a rate of $13.76 per square foot, or $1.38 million per year, according to the documents. There's also one five-year renewal option at a rate of $1.76 million per year.
The property is less than one mile from N.C. Lottery's Yonkers Road building, but separated by the I-440 Beltline.
N.C. Lottery spokesman Van Denton in September explained that since the lottery program was enacted in 2006, lottery sales have more than doubled to more than $2 billion per year, requiring also a need to increase staff. The lottery office currently has 160 people on staff in Raleigh.

Why do they need 160 people to run a lotto at one site. Reminds me of IBM when they would have 80 managers and 80 workers.
The North Carolina Lottery bosses must see a bright future for the Lottery. They are definitely optimistic.
