Whenever the subject of Slavery, KKK, Segregation or Jim Crow come up, Bigots try to explain it away by saying the Democrats are responsible for it. White Dixiecrats are responsible. Blacks could not be a member in the KKK, Blacks did not have the power to make segregation a law, make Black codes a law, put themselves into slavery, or prevent themselves from voting, NO, this was not a republican or a democrat thing, this was a White Thing. Plain and Simple.

Repubs for years have complained about how the country was divided during the Obama administration but are DEAF, DUMB, and BLIND when it comes to white supremacist that sing "Hail to the Chief". If you think the country was divided then, just pay attention to the next four years of Trump's administration.
