I hear what you are saying, but it not the job of a teacher to discriminate, it's to educate. This is what this topic is about. If this teacher refuses to educate children because of their political beliefs then they will be looking for another occupation. Plain and simple. I have 31 years of experience in education and I know what the end result will be for this teacher.

A teacher's personal opinion is just that personal, once you start sharing it, it becomes political. This goes against the policies and procedures set forth by the Board of Education. Failing to follow proper protocol and procedure can result in termination. A teacher's job is to teach, politicians are the ones responsible for immigration policies.

It is not in a teacher's job description to decide who they will teach, nor is it the teacher's job to act as ICE agents. A teacher's job is to teach whomever to the best of their ability. During my tenure as a teacher, I have taught gang bangers, wanna-bes, and yes illegal immigrants. I can't remember a time that I ever refused to teach someone because of the label that was placed on them. Teaching is not for the faint in heart, it is a calling. You either have what it takes to manage discipline and classroom behavior or you are in the wrong profession.... [ More ]
