The building of the statues is not a problem, but the placement of them is. The placement of those statues have nothing to do with heritage, but everything to do with the South's fail attempt to overthrow the government of the United States in order to preserve slavery. The statues were used as an in your face by racists that detested the rights that were given people of color, and as a reminder that nothing will change in the South even though they lost the Civil War. These statues belong in museums where the history behind those statues can be fully discussed. They should never be used as a rallying symbol for racists and neo-Nazis.
