Protests in the 60's were done because of conviction and intent to bring the subject to everyone's attention. To my knowledge no one was paid to protest. They're in my opinion acting on emotion which sees only instantaneous or short term gratification. Many who actually break the law can not conceive of 10-20 years in the future potentially having a criminal record, can not find a good job, etc. The stipend some are allegedly paid to be in these protests is nothing for the possible damage they can create for their own lives.
