I searched around on the 'net. Evidently this is something that they do at the Old Mexico chain of restaurants, but I don't think it's a Mexican tradition.

<br />I hope you had a wonderful time. I have a lot of Mexican neighbors and I've been in many Mexican restaurants (I'll bet half this town is now from Mexico) and I've never seen this done at any restaurant or family gathering. When I was in Mexico many years ago the waiter brought out a large sombrero and I danced around it while shooting down shots of tequila, but I don't think that's what you're talking about! LOL

we have celebrated birthdays at Frontera - they come out and sing - but no whipped cream.
