The "exhibit" (if that's what is appropriate) out at the Cross there by Groom that makes me tear and feel so very sad up is the one on abortion. I have put that post in this blog, too, called "Jesus Wept". I do not see how anyone can defend that evil practice, religious or not.

@MIT- as I was watching Passion Of The Christ @ certain scenes, I would get shivers and tears would flow. My father was deeply religious and I thought maybe he was sending me those feelings. Have never experienced anything like that before.

Y/W, maddog. I went to the grocery store this a.m. and being the bachelor I am, I was perusing the frozen food section, esp. the pkgd. meats and was reaching for some chicken nuggets, then decided I'd really like to have some fish sticks, but they were out! I thought "What the heck?" then realized what day it was.

When I fantasize about winning the lottery as I'm sure most everyone else does as well, I always think of a new house and car, but when I think about what else I would want to buy for myself, it's always "a very nice camera"....or two

The text under the photos might seem confusing when I say "I'm not religious." but since I took these photos, I have had my heart hardened, mostly by political events. I feel I cannot call myself a Christian when my heart is so filled with hatred.

rcb, you should come up this way to check it out. It's a semi-leisurely six hr. drive from where you live, I reckon. (my big sister, Ms. Leadfoot, has made the trip from Denton in less than five hours several times). It's nearly too far to classify as a "day trip" but if you made it a weekend tour, you could drive up, visit the Cross, then spend the night in Amarillo and then visit and spend a good bit of the day at the nearby Palo Duro Canyon (the second largest in the U.S., just as the Cross is the second largest in the N. Hemisphere) before heading home.... [ More ]

Good pictures, I can expand them and they really are clear. I know it is Good Friday but my heart still aches to see the Jesus stories this Easter time. Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice for our sins. Thank you Mike for the pictures and reminder.

Note: This is one of several posts I've made in my Blogger blog about the nearby Cross of Our Lord in Groom, Texas, just off of I-40. I will try to post more photos over this weekend.

While not my favorite Station of the Cross at the Groom Cross, the tenth one is an interesting one. I need to take some more photos, some close-ups of the faces.

I've also not taken any good photos of the bronze plaques anchored in blocks of granite around each station. I would like to make a presentation someday of each station and need these all to look somewhat consistent. My best efforts, that is to say, the ones that were the clearest and truest to the actual color, had part of a necessary bit chopped off or had my big feet in them.

There's not a great perspective to take the photo of this station; any more to the right would have the gift shop in the background. As it is, I-40 and at times the traffic can be seen.

The detail is much more impressive as you get closer. I'm sure, since this is a double bronze, that it's one of those that (I was told) cost upwards of $30,000.

Jesus, exhausted from the labor of carrying the cross, bleeding from hundreds of cuts from vicious lashings, shows a sad resignation. He knows His greatest torment is yet to come.

The headdress/helmet of the Roman guard is almost comical, but then one's eyes drop to his face.

A mean, cruel face, insensitive to his captive's suffering. The exaggerated wrinkles in his face show a face prone not to laughter, but to sneers and scowls. He loved his horrible job.

And then they gambled for His clothes.
