A couple of the plastic flappers broke on mine and I had to buy a whole new thingamabob and install it but there was a screen under the flappers on both of them.

Removed the flapper piece from the metal tube and cleaned the lint that was hung up on the flapper fins. Cleaned the tube and re installed the vent tube back in place. Flapper fins work fine now.

Will keep out critters from entering vent tube. Snakes, salamanders and what ever.
