I had a hog in the holler here a few years back and he was pulling at the fence on my dog pen and my husky mix was going nuts inside the pen. I think the hog was somebody's escaped pet and was used to dogs and just wanted to play with the dog or something. He didn't have any tusks on him.

I went out there to get him to stop tearing up the dog pen and took my Bulldog 44 Special just in case. When I got out there he had pulled the fence loose and my husly mix was all over him. The... [ More ]

I see turkeys quite a bit here in the holler but this year is insane. There must be a bumper crop of them this year cuz the flocks I've been seeing are way bigger in number than I've ever seen here before.

I usually see groups of 3 or 4, maybe five at the most. But I just watched a flock of about 15 to 18 of 'em come down out of the woods from the south ridge, cross the holler and go up into the woods on the north ridge. I've seen similar, maybe even bigger flocks in the fields along the roads around here.

I don't know how common this is in other areas but I've never seen it around here before. My dogs just sat there outside and watched 'em. They're too old and lazy to chase after 'em anymore. They don't even bark at 'em anymore, lol.

The cat just sat here and gazed in wonder if she could handle a big ol' turkey. Course she was sittin' here inside with me at the computer machine lookin' out the window down the holler. She was out there earlier but wanted in cuz she doesn't like gettin' her feet wet. She takes a few steps and shakes her feet off and then a few more steps and shakes 'em again and so forth. She's a nutjob. My driveway is two gravel ribbons and she's not crazy about that either. It's 2 crushed limestone rock actually and I guess maybe it would be sharp on bare feet. She gingerly tiptoes on that stuff. She's a regular Princess around here. I think she might be a Democrat.

I got a couple of new guns I'd like to try out but we're talking probably 75-80 yards which would require the AR and I've really lost the will for killin' stuff lately for some reason and I don't think Sugar Britches would feel like cleaning one this late in the day anyway Not to mention the fact that I ain't the best shot in the world either. And lately it seems I'd rather enjoy looking at beautiful animals than take their lives. Guess I'm gettin' soft in my old age.

... [ More ]
