Painted the new caulk and bare wood on the windows. It went better than expected. Took 3 hours taking a couple of sit down breaks. I am satisfied. Can not see it after sunset to sunrise.

Still have the rot to fix on garage window.

Noticed another area that needs work. The top jamb on the garage door has a wicked caulk split almost the full length. Must have warped downward to make a crack like that. I will remove the old caulk and look into screwing the jamb to the header framing to button it up before I install new caulk.

Also on the side jambs on the garage door opening does not extend out far enough to cover a lousy brick job. Brick not back far enough to go behind the jamb. They filled in with mortar and that fell out leaving decent size holes. Either the brick is out of level or the framing is not level. There is about 4 1x2 inches of brick reveal showing on each side of the Jamb face. I will take a 2x4 and cut it to the dimension I want for each side and butt it to the face of the jamb that is on there and screw it onto the existing jamb. I will prime coat all sides to the 2x4s before installing them. Then I will take bondo and fill in and sand the seam so the seam is not visible. Then put on new caulk and finish coat of paint. End up not seeing a lousy brick job.

This house was built about 45 years ago and the workmanship that went into it looks like a crew of newbies built it. Rush, Rush get r dun. The builder probably paid the subs below rate too.

Has not fallen down, Concrete slab has not cracked but out of level here and there. House looks decent, But I can see the level of workmanship that went into it. Little things here and there.... [ More ]
