When one poorly educated person quotes another poorly educated person. are more poorly educated people obligated to try to defend them.? Or do they believe doing that makes them feel smarter and risk offending their fearless leader that loves the poorly educated?

Do you have any idea of what a "fairy tale" is? "a children's story about magical and imaginary beings and lands." The way it works, if something is true, by definition, it can't be a fairy tale.
