Good to know that you came away with something positive Tenaj. I think gardening has a lot of lessons in it. Like Grace said it also teaches respect for elders and respect for the earth. Also, because you have to nurture the plant it teaches delayed gratification and responsibility like you mentioned. Oh yeah, gardening nourishes the spirit and eventually will feed the body. But what I really liked about Will Allen's project is that it is transforming a whole community in a positive way, children and adults alike. That has got to be so fulfilling.... [ More ]

I was impressed with what she said about Will Allen's garden project and her analogy of how a "garden" teaches young people values. Especially the part when you wait for something to grow and experience that good things take a well, (my words) and it is so close to nature that it gives you what you need "food." We have groups here that have community gardens but I'd never thought of it as a teaching tool for young people.

Thanks jxp for that information. I viewed the web sites you posted... Wow. It's amazing how 1 good thing leads to another. And I agree..Will Allen is just the type of athelete who should be our role model for the next generation. Positive and uplifting. Love it.
