Spy, did you try one of those crates they sell at Wal-Mart? There is nothing cruel about keeping a puppy in a cage while she is learning to behave. At least she'll be warm and also feel she is part of the family. 9 degrees is very cold.

and it's 9* here. 9*!!!! We're getting a shocker too. We went from 50's to 9*!

You know they have outside heat lamps for animal houses too. My mother bought one for her animals. Mine, on the other hand, likes to tear everything up. We bought him an outdoor heating pad to lie down on. He tore it up like a rag doll. (He tears everything up, one of the reasons he stays outside. Which I don't understand. He was the easiest dog to house train I have ever had. But he started teething -well, you know what I mean--and I couldn't keep him inside anymore.)
