Yes, I intentionally bought Vista. XP won't be supported forever by Microsoft, although the timeline for purchase of new XP systems has been extended through June of this year. If I can't get all the problems I'm having now resolved you can be sure that when the time comes for replacement in another five years I will definitely be looking at Macs.

I don't have many nice things to say about Vista OR Microsoft 2007 Office. The new desktop computer is not being used for project work right now - the operating system had to be reloaded and some of the software and files have yet to be re-transferred. If I weren't using it for Internet access it'd be about as useful as a boat anchor.

Why Microsoft felt it necessary to redo the file management system is way beyond me. I guess when one gets accustomed to the new system it'll be OK, but right now it's giving me fits. It isn't as easy to place transferred or downloaded files where you want them any more - the system places them where IT wants them. And there's no reasoning behind where they're placed, either.

In Word, one used to toggle between Insert/Overstrike mode simply by pressing the Insert key on the keyboard. No more. Now you need to move the mouse pointer to the control panel at the top of the screen and click on two seaprate objects each time you want to change that mode. What genius is responsible for this - and why?

Needless to say, given these problems and taking the time necessary to search for solutions for them, the project is not proceeding as quickly as I would like. Phase III proceeds, but slowly. When I go on the road later this month I'll be starting Phase IV fill files. No major problems so far.

... [ More ]
