Oh yeah. Have done it several times when I was a staff nurse. I've also not shown up on a day that I was scheduled to work. Thank goodness I have a manager who is understanding. As a staff nurse, you come in on your day off, you'd better sneak out before the word gets out. Most of the time the management staff will find work for you to do.

.......misread a work schedule located at work and come into work on a day you weren't supposed to come in?

It happened to me today. I went to work and noticed that my name wasn't on the war plan (paper stating what station each person will be at for that day). I looked up to discover that there was nothing in my block for today. I asked the shift managers if the schedule changed any....and they said that the schedule never changed. It turns out........I had misread the schedule. I mistaked my row for another guy's row of days and times to come in (I actually work Sunday through Wednesday instead of Saturday through Tuesday). Everyone told me I wasn't the first and won't be the last to do that.

In a way, it was a good thing I came in. We've got new uniforms (a new apron and hat, too) and I had to sign some papers for them and sign stating I was aware of a new policy change about getting sick (IIRC, they added some more sicknesses where you MUST contact the manager and probably not come into work until a doctor gives you the ok -- that was pretty much it). I need to put those new uniforms, apron, and hat into the washer (and dryer for the uniforms and apron) so they'll be ready for tomorrow evening. Before I left, I did ask if they needed any help. They told me that they were pretty well staffed for tonight and didn't need any help.

Oh yeah.....starting next week, my hours get cut down by 1 each day I work. *shrugs shoulders* At least it wasn't more than that.

Until next time, may all your tickets win something for ya.

... [ More ]
