Why would they keep selling cigarettes and alcohol when both are responsible for a lot of sickness and death? Maybe they'll just impose fees on supplements like cigarettes & call it a "supplement tax." As I said before, I agree that any restrictions on what we put in our own bodies is something I frown upon, but IMO, the reason is purely greed. If a vitamin is labeled as a drug, then the pharmaceutical companies can profit from it. If people who feel they need extra B6 can't buy it from their local vitamin store, then they'll have no choice but to go to a doctor and get a "legal" prescription. I mean, let's say that they discovered that a specific combination of Vit D and B6 cured depression or at least reduced the symptoms significantly with no harmful side effects. Well, since millions of Americans are on anti-depressants, that would hurt the drug companies. So then they'd try to get those natural supplements labeled as drugs to make sure they keep making the big bucks. Plus, why would the powers in the government want us to be happy? Miserable people are much easier to control. If we're all healthy, happy and rich, we don't need them! ;-)... [ More ]
I don't like restrictions or rules any more than you, but with a Walgreen's on every corner and a CVS on the other, anyone can buy 10 year's worth of cold medicine if he wants. The reason for the restriction is that 2 of the ingredients are used in home meth labs. AFAIK it actually did help for a long time and greatly reduced the production of meth. But like guns, booze or anything else, people will find a way.

Oy! If they ban B6 I'll have to start eating more bananas.... [ More ]

Early in 2008, I did a few blogs about food shortages and also plans to outlaw the sale of vitamin supplements and make small (home) scale food production very inconvenient.

As supplements are classified as FOOD, you can currently buy as much of them as you want. Once they become classified as TOXINS or controlled substances , then their sale becomes subject to gov't permit. To see how well that works, look no further than people who have gotten arrested for buying too much allergy cold medicine (Gary Schinagel, for example - www.globegazette.com/articles/2008/09/23/news/local/doc48d877436e870927909116.txt ) - That hissing sound you hear is Libs wetting their beds defending the i n t e n t i o n of the law. Results don't matter, just i n t e n t i o n .

Back to B6. The FDA was petitioned to ban the sale of B6 based on it being similar to a drug -- developed from, you guessed it, B6. Here is one of the many articles about it you didn't hear from the lame-stream-media: www.naturalnews.com/023514.html

But, hey, what do I know? I just make it all up and draw paranoid conclusions. Not to worry... except, there is that little matter of finding the actual petition. Check the PDF.

www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main?main=DocumentDetail d=FDA-2007-P-0410-0002

... [ More ]
