<br />Heard Roy Hamilton's version the first time in about 1961. There was one major FM station in Atlanta (now sold and playing country) which featured oldies for a couple of hours once a week that played Roy Hamilton's version once in awhile ... vinyl crackles and all.

Great music from the way-back machine.

Roy Hamilton came from an era where voice and ability stood on their own merits, and he has one of the most extraordinarily beautiful voices of mid 50's to early 60's. I believe he was the firt singer to hit with Unchained Melody in 1957.... someone has posted that video on YouTube.
