However, it went something like this.

Mulder was interrogating a suspect that had some kind of psychic ability.

In the scene, Mulder was using a deck of playing cards to test the psychic s abilities by having him guess the cards.

Well, the suspect thought it would be clever to not guess the correct card.

First it was the actual card face, and then Mulder simplified it to just red or black.

Again, the suspect thought it would be clever to guess the wrong card every time thinking that would no doubt show he had no psychic ability.

But the short sighted suspect didn t understand the probability of the crux.

See, Mulder knew the probabilities and used it to his advantage to show something true by showing what it isn t.

After the little game, Mulder looked at the suspect and told him that the odds of getting every guess right is exactly the same as getting them wrong.

Think about it for a while.
