@joker17 - I would personally advise you to choose either AVG or Microsoft Security Essentials, but not install both. You should only use one anti-malware software app on your PC. The Microsoft software always gets top ratings for detection, plus it is free and it stays very "quiet". (It doesn't feel the need to constantly make you aware of its presence.) That's the perfect tri-fecta for me, which is why I love it. Plus, the built-in Windows Firewall is as good as any on the market.... [ More ]

Trucritic...Since I have a copy of windows 7 on a disc, why would I need to make a another copy? I'll just use the one I bought to reinstall windows 7 incase the computer gets infected agian. Or am i missing something in what you wrote...thanx..

<br />While your Win7 is still in new condition is the time to make that backup disc. You'll need to burn a blank DVD with the backup files.

Most viruses come through e-mail, so that would be my guess.Install the free Microsoft Security Essentials for your virus protection and use the built-in Windows Firewall for your firewall protection. That's all that's really needed -- and it's all free. Just don't click any attachments in e-mail, like zip files, pdfs files, etc. And before clicking any links in e-mail, always hover your mouse over the link and check to see that the link you'll be going to matches with the link that is shown. If you had a system disk vista or w7 you can boot the disk and it gives a windows shell that allows a restore recovery install etc. to fix a corruption..............

I tried to get rid of the virus on my Toshiba laptop, but the registry was do messed up it was rediculous. I then tried to set it back to factory settings, but after 85% I got an error message, so that didn't work. I finally had to run to Staples and purchase Windows 7 home edition.

During installation the product key didn't work, so I tried leaving it empty to see If I could bypass it, and it worked. But it did say that I have 30 days to get the correct product key. I hope that doesn't present a problem. I'll have to call Staples to see what I have to do.

So far so good. Phew...what a nightmare.
