What happened is some guards abused their authority the staff neglected to verify whom the patient was. The patient became irate and the guards acted as thought they were detaining a sicko. Albeit hope you never land in that position. Mistakes are made in every hospital in the country it wasn't the guards job to harass the patient it was the doctors job to identify the patient.

"Mrs. Wheeler and the nurse met Mr. Wheeler at the door. The nurse told Mr. Wheeler that he was not allowed to leave. She put a bandage on Mr. Wheeler's hand to stop the bleeding from the I/V spot, and then yelled for security.

Agree totally. The patient was scared for his very life faced with the utter gross incompetence that hospital showed. NO ONE WAS LISTENING TO HIM, no one wanted to hear what he had to say so he was going to get out any way he could. Sad they're suing for so little. Hope they win every penny.

A change in healthcare coverage will not change this. The only thing that will change, is the amount of out-of-pocket money you will have to pay for your healthcare if you did not have insurance coverage or proper insurance coverage before the act goes into affect.

Secondly.. if these security guards were so blaten and rude, they should be fired on the spot. Unless the patient physically attacks the guard can only talk him back to his room. Unless the command is given by the medical personel to physical restrain that patient, there should not be any physical contact. Fighting is not permitted. The scary thing is that so many of these people in uniforms have serious inferiority complexes that they manifest through aggression. The insane asylum is being guarded by sociopaths.
