Did not see this until you told me in my blog entry. I reviewed the one in my blog several times after finding the vid of the one in Britian with the wireless phone. I done some stop motion in the chaplain film to see if I could find wires for antenna. If the wireless phone is being used by the woman in the Chaplain film I figure the box is hidden under the jacket. For an antenna look carefully at the womans hat using stop motion you will see something that is sticking up from the hat. My guess it could be the antenna.... [ More ]

It could be a put-on, but my personal belief is that her mannerisms reflect a person speaking on a phone, especially at the very end when she pauses as if she was interrupted by the person on the other end and stops to listen more carefully, and then just before she fades away, you can see that she is responding to whatever the person on the other end was saying. It could be anything as you say, but it's just weird how her mannerisms so greatly reflect people we see everyday on... [ More ]

It could easily be some kind of "put-on" - especially if he/she works in movies. If it truly is an OLD man/woman, they could be talking to themselves or to a loved one that passed away. They could be holding anything.

The old woman is talking to herself and she is clutching a change purse. In her right arm she is holding what appears to be laundry, either she just came from the cleaners or might be headed there.

Time*treat, The first electronic one was not invented until 1932. If it was a hearing aid, who was she talking to? She was walking alone.

In a 1928 Chaplin movie called Circus , there is a scene in the movie where it looks like a woman/man is seen walking down the street seemingly talking on a cell phone. Even if it was a walkie talkie, the atenna would have been tall and visible. Very strange piece of film.
