This is a really cool project! I've been planing some lumber, myself. Have a 1911 front porch with tongue and groove floorboards ----- can't find that tongue and groove anywhere ..... so, I'm taking up the old floor boards and running them through the planer for reuse. This time, I'll caulk in all the grooves as they're put back together, as well as coating all sides in a mixture of boiled linseed oil and turpentine. Then, I'll caulk and cap off the end grain on the front of the boards, and hopefully get another 80 or 90 years of out the lumber. Old wood is harder to work with, because I usually have to pre-drill it to keep it fron splitting.... [ More ]
