She is still alive! The bullet apparently went through her temple and out the other side, but they expect her to survive. Truly a miracle!

So that they wouldn't be called out if it turns out to be a semi-auto. -- "Never let a good crisis go to waste". Yeah, I immediately thought of the Oklahoma City aftermath; "hate radio" and all that.

"A congressional official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the gunman was using an automatic weapon". Why would the congressional official need anonymity to describe the gun as an automatic? "Never let a good crisis go to waste".

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was injured and five others died after a gunman opened fire at a public event on Saturday, member station KJZZ in Phoenix has confirmed.

The Pima County, Ariz., sheriff's office told news director Mark Moran the 40-year-old Democrat was killed.
