I was stationed in Europe at the time and we were suddenly called out of barracks on high alert. Quickly packed up and were out in field positions for whatever. Forgot how long the alert lasted. Got my European tour extended six months in the interest of national security. Also remember our outfit doing Russian border readiness tour. Must have been a mile or two from the border.
