Compromise has another meaning: you can also weaken something by putting it in a compromising position, without mutual agreement.

When a bully comes up to you saying he'll beat you up if you don't give him your lunchmoney, you can tell him your weak, don't want or even know how to fight, but you'll give him what he want's without a fight and call that a compromise. Then the bully says I'll see you tomorrow and everyday after that for more compromises. Compromising sure is alot easier than fighting america.
