Republicans will NEVER gain the Presidency on their ideas alone because the vast majority of the American electorate disagree with them and they know it. That is why they also will not agree to the national elections candidates for the Senate and President being decided by popular vote. What the republicans need to do is have a fully staffed national election committee for all republican candidates. They need different committes for federal and state candidates. They need to move up to the 21st century on campaigning. When a candidate is elected from the primaries the national committee needs to work with the candidates election committee.
