It was the Racists government of South Africa that tried to portray Mandela as a communist. Just as the then racists leaders of America tried to portray Martin Luther King as a communist. This was clearly a bigot tactic.

Mandela, like most of us, was many things in our younger years, the only thing that matters is how you leave this world. Is this world a better place because of what you did for humanity? They also called Martin Luther King a communist...that's OK too. Nothing is going to negate what these two great men did.
