Below is yet again another chart that shows the real status of Employment, Unemployment and Nonemployment.

Employment and Unemployment are pretty well understood, these are the employable people the government likes to hold up in there number crunching release memos about employment rates.

Nonemployment is the number of people the government does not count in its Employment numbers touting record keeping.

These are the people that have either never entered the work force or have been out of work so long the government no longer counts them as employable.

As we can see, the chart shows the relative proportion of each employment segment of the total employment population for each month of that year's activity.

The total employment population is always 1 and each of the employment segments; employment, unemployment and nonemployment, is a fraction or percentage of the total employment population.

Each of the segments should always add up to 1.

Look through the chart and we can see how employment changes over time and which segment is getting larger and smaller.

The one segment of particular interest is the nonemployment, because this is where unemployment numbers can end up and can give a false read on the trend in unemployment statistics.

Take note of the activity starting in 2010 and see how the unemployment line remains relatively constant and flat, yet the nonemployment is rising.

Zoomed in on 2008 Jan to 2013 Nov

... [ More ]
