The author was a true sage, he had a following out west, his little booklets were sold all over Vegas and other places.

When he died it was kept hush hush for a while, that's how tight his flock was.

One of his sayings that really stuck with me is:

So you've got 10 people coming over for dinner tonight and now you can't even stand the thought of setting out the place settings.
So why'd you send out the invitations.

You can read about him... [ More ]

Vernon Howard's

SECRETS OF LIFE (R)

**********************************************************************

There was once a town named Argueville. All day long everyone

angrily argued with everyone else. No one liked living in

Argueville. In the center of town was a booth occupied by a

man called the Director. He was not a resident of the town but

came to the booth daily. His purpose was to give directions to

people who wanted to leave Argueville but did not know how.

However, when he supplied directions to a man or a woman they

argued that he was wrong and accused him of deceiving them.

The Director's only reply to the arguers was, 'You may use my

directions or you may use your own.' Arguing that they knew what

was right, the arguers left, but wearily returned a few hours

later, unable to find the way out of town.

But every once in awhile a man or woman who had previously argued

with the Director came back to him with different attitudes. Each

told him, 'I have run out of arguments. Please give me the right

directions which I will follow.' These people with the right

attitudes soon found their way out of awful Argueville.

We can argue or we can learn. We can't do both. Arguing is an

insecure person's substitute for knowing. Truth, the Great

Director, is patient. When we run out of arguments we will

find the way out.

Be Safe In A Dangerous World, p. 19

... [ More ]
